NOTE FROM PLUS FASHION MODEL, LATONIA “SHOSTOPPA” MARTIN

“Hello!

My name is Latonia Martin and I am a strong, powerful, black female in the fashion industry. Hence, why I refer to myself as “Shostoppa.” My long term goals are to get my Master’s Degree in Nursing and become an established business woman alongside a successful print model. Because having a thriving modeling career involves a lot on investment, I wish I had’ve started as a young child.

I have a ton of things coming up such as modeling in The Midwest Summer Classic fashion show produced by Rush Radio! Having awesome role models such as Ashley Graham modernizing and popularizing being “plus size,” I feel that it is much easier for curvy women to achieve flourishing fashion careers!

I stand behind chasing your cheams and not stopping until goals are accomplished. I may slow down but don’t count me out! Believe me when I say that I run towards my fears, not away from them!

Love,

ShoStoppa”

A Note From Brown Sugar's Balloons CEO, Iesha

"My main mission in life with my work is to provide joy for any occasion and let others know that you can build your business enough to reach back and lift others! We are community, we volunteer as much as possible with different community organizations. We have a scholarship fund, provide Christmas sponsorships to families up to $500 per family for 2 families each year, and we have hosted Veterans' Thanksgiving dinners. Now we teach others in our community how to become economically empowered with owning their own Balloon Designs business.

I am so proud of my accomplishments because I am not only showing my babies that it is possible to live their dreams, but I am showing others that it is possible to have lived their dreams fearlessly.
Some of my proudest accomplishments were being asked to do decorations for the cities only daytime talk show WindyCity Live, being Awarded a car that was paid in full, being inducted into my Almatar Hall of Fall, being able to empower other women, just to name a few.

I tell Black youths to go for it. There will never be perfect timing. You have to just do it! Get you a mentor, work for someone else in that field first. Set goals, write them down, surround yourself with others that wants to see you do well. Take the mistakes/failures along the way as learning lessons. DO NOT compete with anyone other than yourself because you only see the surface you don't know in reality what the next person went through to get where they are. Most importantly everyone's Journey is different. Own your niche!"

Who Is G Simone!?!

5 MINUTES WITH G SIMONE
An O.G. #GirlBoss In The Entertainment Industry

Have you ever met someone that was cool beyond their age? Someone that spoke such truths and packed such a punch that you could not help but admire them? I have. That’s Miss G Simone. She’s every bit of awesome with a slither of street and somehow that comes together as the fabulousness that is her persona. This article is just a quick 5 minute interview that I had with her.

Who are you? GSimone is a music industry maven, who’s career has roots stemming back to the nineties. I have released many well received projects such as my songs “I Know, You Know” and “Music For The 90’s.” My EP, “My Music, Your Conversation”, revealed a sultry and
melodic sound that is quintessential old school R&B.

Today  I reimagine my musical vision through EDM on my new single “Queen From the Ghetto.” This track is far more than sonically pleasing, it has a message. “Queen From The Ghetto” embodies my mission to uplift and encourage people to thrive, regardless of background;
all while providing an uptempo beat and catchy lyrics you can dance to.

Introduce yourself in 3 sentences or less? Often praised for her complex lyricism and unique voice, Simone G. Parker—perhaps better known as “GSimone”—is a singer, songwriter and producer. She is also the CEO of RAMP Recordings + RAMP Entertainment.

Why did you get started doing music?  When I was 16, I would always sing in the car around my friends and they would say “you have a nice voice.” So, I started recording with a guy named Sam. We did a few songs and videos. Then, I got into acting and modeling a bit. When I auditioned at the Apollo, it was definitely a push in the right direction when I  was told that I was a good performer. I sang an Anita Baker song. Sadly, I never followed up.

What is your favorite thing about doing music? Writing songs. I envelop myself into a story and imagine how the listener will feel when they hear the lyrics.

How would you classify yourself? Genre wise. Or do you not have a genre? I am like a box of crayons. I am a multitude of colors. Sometimes it’s Hip-Hop, EDM, Reggae, R&B, Jazz I love all Music.

What are some goals of yours? To write songs that heal people, inspire people, help people.

Upcoming projects? I am currently working on my 7 song EP titled “Arrived”, to be released in late October along with a new book “Identifying Your FAITH.”

What is one thing you hate about the music industry? No no no, I don’t hate. If you hate you hate yourself first. The industry is the industry. There’s nothing to not like, it’s just something to master.

Talk a little bit about the concept of "girl power" or being a #girlboss ?
Maybe we should hash tag (lady boss). I have an acronym for LADY - Love And Develop Yourself. That’s what it’s all about, the discovery and development of who you are.

Tell me some of your favorite artists? I am a fan of the new and the old Ms Hill, Ms Badu, Alicia Keys,  Detranada , Ms Malato, Dynasty the DY, Mary J Blige, Little Mo, Michelle, Carbi B, Sza, Sade, Lady Luck, Remy Ma, Fat Joe, J Cole, Common, Sarah  McClachlan, Will I Am, the list goes on

What inspires you? My family

Enjoyed the interview? I know you did! ;-) Here’s where you can find Miss Simone G. Go check her out :
